Sportsbook Baseball Betting – King Felix Duels Lackey as Mariners Host Red Sox

MLBBaseballBetting.com – Written By Charles Jay

The Seattle Mariners have not had a lot of success lately against the Boston Red Sox, and what is so frustrating for them is that they may not have any more than usual, even with one of the best pitchers in baseball on the mound. Felix Hernandez gets the start for Seattle in the Monday night matchup, and he is off to a great start this season, but the offense seems to be missing every time he takes to the hill. Can the M’s get that kind of thing turned around? That is the question as sportsbook baseball betting action begins at 10:10 PM Eastern time at Safeco Field in Seattle.

Hernandez has stellar numbers (8-2, 2.22 ERA) but his team has scored just one run for him in his last three starts. No pitcher is going to bolster his won-lost record like that. Of course, Hernandez has won the Cy Young Award before with a record just one game over .500, so we know that the people voting on the award have made allowances for his club’s lack of punch. That is something that may persist on Monday night, as Boston sends John Lackey (8-4, 2.96 ERA) to the mound.

In the sportsbook baseball betting odds that have been posted on this game at BetAnySports, King Felix is the favorite:

Hernandez has been particularly stingy lately, as in his last seven appearances he has chalked up a 1.33 ERA. He has been about as close to unhittable as one can imagine, but it goes even farther than that. In his last three starts against the Red Sox, the earned run average is a microscopic 1.17, and – surprise! – this team has actually put something on the board in those games, sending 18 runners across the plate. As some BetAnySports customers are aware, King Felix will be bucking a trend here, as Boston has captured six consecutive meetings against the M’s.

And the Red Sox may have a pretty decent chance of extending that run in this matchup, inasmuch as they have Lackey on the mound. He has been, as sportsbook baseball bettors know, the most consistent member of Boston starting rotation, and he has been especially effective lately, with a 1.60 ERA over his last six starts. When pitching at Safeco Field, he has won his last six decisions, although it should be noted he hasn’t been there in three years.

Currently the Red Sox are 35-41, and they are 6.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East race. The Mariners are seven games in back of the Oakland Athletics in the AL West, although they are four games over .500 (40-36). Because of the double wild-card situation in both leagues, Seattle is very much a contender, as it is in a virtual three-way tie for the second wild-card spot with both the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees.
