On Saturday, the Sixers held a masterclass on both ends of the court. Joel Embiid has shown once more why he is on the MVP shortlist. The Wizards decided not to double him for most of the game and the big center roasted every defender that came his way. Scott Brooks tried different defenders on him, but all have failed spectacularly. Embiid finished with playoff-career-high 36 points in only 28 minutes and on just 18 shots. He could’ve easily gone for 50 had he not been pulled from the game after 3 quarters. It’s still early in the playoffs but the Sixers look like genuine contenders, especially on defense. Besides Embiid’s dominating inside presence, they feature two of the best perimeter defenders in the league – Ben Simmons and Matisse Thybulle. Behind those three, they have a slew of competent defenders and capable shooters.

Notes on Washington Wizards

The Wizards had a fantastic run to make the playoffs, but it seems that the road for them ends here. They put up a good effort in three games, but are clearly outclassed here. Washington has struggled to create any offense against Philly’s perimeter defense while on the other end of the court they simply have no answer for Embiid. They have no players capable of guarding him one-on-one, and doubling him opens space for Philly’s dangerous shooters. The two best players, Beal and Westbrook have been good in the series, but none of the role players have stepped up to help. Bertans and Hachimura struggled to get their shooting going, while their bigs are no match for Philadelphia’s frontcourt.

The Wizards have no fresh injury concerns. The only players out are long-term absentees Avdija and Bryant.
