Through 42 games, the Yankees are 6 ½ games off the pace in the AL East set by the Tampa Bay Rays. At this pace, New York might not even qualify for the postseason.

The Los Angeles Dodgers (31-12) have established themselves as the team to beat in the National League. They were the favorites going in and nothing has changed. The Chicago Cubs have the next best record at 25-18 through 43 games.

AL Rookie of the Year Odds
The name at the top of this list is Luis Robert as a +125 favorite. The Chicago White Sox outfielder is one of the reasons his team is currently tied for first in the AL Central. He is tied for 11th in home runs with 11. He has also knocked in 27 runs. Through his first 42 games this season, he has a .265 batting average.
Next on the list is the Seattle Mariners’ outfielder Kyle Louis at +150. Called up from the minors last September, he has made the most of the opportunity. He has the 16th-best batting average in the league at .313. Lewis has 23 RBI with nine home runs.
I would take the slightly higher value in Lewis with slightly better all-around numbers.
NL Rookie of the Year Odds
The name at the top of this list would be Jake Cronenworth as a clear -125 favorite. Playing for the San Diego Padres, he is a big part of that team’s winning record (27-17). As a versatile infielder, he has made his mark at the plate and in the field. He is batting .323 with 40 hits in 124 at-bats. He has also driven in 19 runs with four homers.
The second-favorite in the NL rookie of the year race is Dustin May at +150 betting odds.
As a pitcher with the Dodgers, he does have an inside edge. The right-hander has made eight starts this season with an even record of 1-1. The stat that stands out the most is an impressive 2.88 ERA. He has also posted 28 strikeouts. If May continues to pitch at this level, he will continue to close the gap with Cronenworth.
The fact that San Diego has won 27 of its first 44 games adds value to the favorite. May’s team was expected to be the best in the NL this year. There is still some value in May given the plus money in his odds. I would go with a small play in this direction.
