The first month of the new MLB season comes to a close and with most teams having at least 25 games in the books we now have a pretty good feel for which ones look like long-term contenders and which ones are just along for the ride.

The biggest surprise out of the gate has been the Milwaukee Brewers, who are off to a blistering 20-7 start through this past Tuesday night’s games. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games and already 6.5 games ahead of St. Louis in the NL Central title race. The Brewers have the second-best team ERA (2.59) in the National League and they are ranked fifth in the NL in hitting with a .255 team batting average.

All three division races in the American League remain tight starting in the AL East. Just 4.5 games separate first from fifth in this division with the New York Yankees (15-11) holding a two-game lead over Baltimore at the top. The defending champion Red Sox are 13-14 and 2.5 games off the pace.
