Baseball Betting at Get That Bet – Gonzalez Looks to Rebound Against Brewers

Gio Gonzalez would love to turn back the clock to the time when he was the ace of the Washington Nationals’ staff, even ahead of people like Stephen Strasburg. But for now, he will settle for being able to put in a solid outing as he is making just his second start after coming off the disabled list. Gonzalez toes the rubber against the Milwaukee Brewers, the team that has the best record in the National League, in baseball betting action that is scheduled to get underway at 8:10 PM ET at Miller Park in Milwaukee.

It would be a real shot in the arm for the Nationals if they could get a special effort out of Gonzalez, who is just 3-4 this season with a 4.85 ERA. They had briefly lost their lead in the NL East to the Atlanta Braves in their weekend series, after losing the first two, but then they came back to win the next two and are, at the moment, 1.5 games ahead of it land to and 2.5 games ahead of Miami in the division race. Milwaukee has the best record in the league, as we mentioned, and they are 47-30, which puts them 5.5 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals.

In the baseball betting odds that have been posted on this game by the people over at Get That Bet, the Brewers are the favorites:

Milwaukee Brewers (Garza – R) -130
Washington Nationals (Gonzalez – L) +110

Over 8.5 Runs -110
Under 8.5 Runs -110

Gonzalez led the National League with 21 victories just two seasons ago, but that win total was reduced to just eleven last year. Over his last six starts, he has compiled a bloated 6.46 earned run average. Some of the problem has been attributed to injuries, and Gonzalez came off a month of inactivity, caused by shoulder inflammation, last Wednesday against the Houston Astros. He did not fare well, giving up four runs in five innings. But baseball bettors are well-advised to consider that Gonzalez has done extremely well when facing the hitters that make up Milwaukee’s lineup; in fact, collectively they have batted .139 against him in their career.

Opposing Gonzalez on the mound on Monday night is Matt Garza, whose record is even at 4-4 with a 4.02 ERA, although the sharp baseball bettors at Get That Bet realize that doesn’t really tell the full story. Garza is on a nice run, with a 2.41 ERA over his last five starts, and he had a credible outing last Wednesday against Arizona, giving up three runs before leaving with two outs in the eighth inning. The Brewers lost that game, but they had a hot hitter on their seven-game road trip, as veteran third baseman Aramis Ramirez hit three homers, had seven extra-base hits and 10 RBIs with a .500 average.

Currently Washington is on a streak of four straight road losses, while Milwaukee, which is the best team in baseball on the road, has not duplicated that kind of performance at home, going just 20-15 thus far on the season.
