The latest casualty was Miami ace Jose Fernandez, who is now headed for Tommy John surgery. The Marlins had gotten off to a surprising 20-20 start, but this will be a major blow to their chances to compete in the crowded NL East race. Atlanta (22-16) currently leads Washington (20-19) by 2.5 games in that division.

The hottest team in the Majors heading into Wednesday’s games is the Oakland Athletics in the AL West. They extended their current winning streak to six games with an 11-0 romp over the Chicago White Sox this past Tuesday as 189 home favorites on BetAnySports’ closing MLB betting odds. This past weekend the A’s swept Washington in three straight games by the combined score of 21-4. The Detroit Tigers have stayed hot with seven victories in their last 10 games to help maintain a 5.5-game lead over Kansas City in the AL Central. The Tigers improved to 23-12 overall with Tuesday’s 4-1 win over Baltimore as slight 109 road favorites.
