The race for this season’s American League Pennant appears to be a two-way battle between the Detroit Tigers and a good portion of the AL East. BetAnySports has opened the Tigers as 17/4 favorites to win the American League with Boston and Tampa Bay each a close second at 6/1. The resurgent New York Yankees have been opened as 13/2 fourth favorites followed by Texas at 8/1 and Oakland at 9/1 out of the AL West.

The Tigers won the AL Central by a game last season with a record of 93-69 and they made it all the way to the ALCS before falling to the Red Sox four games to two. Their projected win total for this season has been set at 89.5 with a -125 moneyline on the OVER and a -105 line on the UNDER. Detroit has been opened as a solid -225 favorite to repeat as AL Central champs with Kansas City listed as +400 second favorites.

The AL East should be a Battle Royal in 2014, with the defending World Series Champion Red Sox in a dead heat with the Rays as +220 favorites. The Yankees are listed at +240 betting odds to win this division while Baltimore and Toronto bring up the rear at +700. When it comes to win totals in this division, Tampa Bay gets the slight edge at 88.5, but the moneyline favors the UNDER at -125. Boston’s win total is set at 87.5 and that moneyline favors the OVER at -125. New York has an even moneyline of -115 either way on a projected total of 86.5 wins.

Oakland’s late season surge in 2013 opened a 5.5-game spread against Texas to win the AL West with a record of 96-66, but the Oddsmakers expect a slight step backwards in 2014 with the A’s win total set at 88.5.; however the current -130 moneyline on the UNDER favors a big step backwards this season. Oakland has been listed as a +200 second favorite to repeat as division champs. That honor belongs to the Rangers at +175 to climb back on top in the West. Their win total has been set at 86.5 games with a -135 moneyline on the OVER. The Los Angeles Angels are expected to stay in the division race this season at +225 betting odds to win the division after finishing a distant 18 games back in 2013. The Angels’ win total has been set at 86.5 with a -115 moneyline on both the OVER and the UNDER.
