The eight-game schedule of NBA games to determine seeding for the postseason comes to a close on Friday. There have been some early surprises in the league’s restart. However, nothing has really changed when it comes to the futures odds to win this season’s NBA Championship.
The biggest surprise is the inspired play of the Phoenix Suns. Before the coronavirus shut down the regular season in mid-March, the Suns had posted a record of 26-39 through 65 games. They were clearly headed to another dismal finish.

The last time Phoenix made the playoffs was in the 2009/2010 season. Since that point, it has only posted one winning season. With a victory against Dallas this Thursday, the Suns would have run the table with a perfect 8-0 record. With this winning streak, Phoenix remains in position for a playoff spot in a tie with Memphis at 33-39 overall. The Suns can come away with the No. 8 seed in the West. If that happens, they will face the No. 1 Los Angeles Lakers in the best-of-seven opening round of the playoffs.
