Baseball Betting at Get That Bet — Braves Try to Get on Right Track Against “Friendly” Gonzalez

There are some thunderstorms expected for the game between the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves, and perhaps that is a good thing for Atlanta, which is experiencing a lull at the moment that has seen them lose nine of their last ten games. Baseball betting action between these National League East contenders is scheduled to begin at 8:05 PM ET.

The Nats have opened up a 4.5-game lead in the division over the Braves, after a 4-1 Washington victory in eleven innings at Turner Field that was held up three hours and 41 minutes by rain.

For Sunday night’s game, Alex Wood (7-9, 3.20 ERA) will be getting the start for the Braves, while Gio Gonzalez (6-8, 4.01 ERA) goes for the Nationals. Both of them are left-handers.

In the baseball betting lines that have been established on this game by the people at Get That Bet, the Braves are the favorites at home:

Atlanta Braves (Wood – L) -120
Washington Nationals (Gonzalez – L) +100

Under 6.5 Runs -115
Over 6.5 Runs -105

Gonzalez looked like his old self at the beginning of July, as he was completing a stretch of three starts in which he had not allowed an earned run in 21 innings. But he has not been effective in either of his last two outings. He has also had quite a bit of trouble against the Braves; in his last seven starts against Atlanta, he is 0-6 with a 5.49 ERA. He went through six rather painful innings against them back in April, as he gave up six runs in an embarrassing 10-2 Washington defeat.

Wood has allowed just two earned runs in his last thirteen innings, and he has compiled a 2.92 ERA since coming aboard with the Atlanta rotation. But Get That Bet patrons know that the Braves simply need to score more runs for him; he has gotten only two runs’ worth of support in each of his last three starts.

The guy who appears to be the most trouble for Gonzalez coming in is Freddie Freeman, Atlanta’s All-Star first baseman who is 24 of 48 against the Nats this season, with four home runs. This, along with Gonzalez’s recent history against the Braves, doesn’t appear to present a winning formula for baseball betting.

If Atlanta can get things going back in the right direction, the Braves have a chance to gain some ground in the wild card race, where they are 2.5 games behind the Pittsburgh Pirates.
