MLB Weekly Roundup- May 7

Before the new MLB regular season started most bettors expected the American League East Division race to be one of the tightest on the board. Through the first 30 games or so this has certainly been the case with just 2.5 games separating first from worst through Tuesday night’s results. Oakland Athletics – Los Angeles Dodgers

Another tight race in the AL is out in the West with Oakland holding on to a two-game lead over both Texas and Seattle. The Los Angeles Angels are just 2.5 games back and the only team out of the running right now is Houston at 10-23 on the year. The Mariners have made the biggest move over the past few weeks with an 8-2 mark in their last 10 games.

Detroit started the year as a prohibitive favorite to claim another AL Central title and so far the Tigers have held true to form with a 19-9 mark that has already opened a five-game lead over Chicago. They head into this Wednesday’s game against the Astros with a seven-game winning streak and a 9-1 record in their last 10 games.

The tightest race in the National League is in the East Division with all five teams bunched-up within 2.5 games. Atlanta took the early lead as the expected favorite, but a 3-7 slide in its last 10 games as cut the lead over Washington to just a half a game. Philadelphia is at the bottom of this division at 15-16.

The biggest early surprise in the Majors has been the Milwaukee Brewers and they continue to prove that they are for real with a 22-12 mark in their first 34 games. This has them a comfortable five games ahead of favorite St. Louis in the NL Central. All five teams in this division have gone 4-6 in their last 10 outings.
