MLB Weekly Roundup- April 9

USA Online Sportsbooks - Philadelphia Phillies Washington Nationals

We are a little over a week into the new MLB regular season and while a few teams have gotten out of the gate with a fast start, a few others have stumbled their way to the pack of the pack.

National League

Starting in the National League, Washington has quickly taken its place at the top of the NL East. They headed into the new season as BetAnySports’ odds-on favorite to reclaim the division title after falling 10 games short of Atlanta last year. The Nationals have won five of their first seven games through Tuesday’s action as a favorite on the closing moneyline in all seven contests. All seven games have been against a division opponent.

The Los Angeles Dodgers started the season as +275 favorites to win the NL Pennant on BetAnySports futures board and despite posting a 6-3 mark in their first nine games, they find themselves a half game in back of San Francisco in the NL West. The Giants have won six of their first eight contests including two of three games against the division rival Dodgers this past weekend. The total has gone OVER in six of San Francisco’s first eight games.

Everyone thought there would be a logjam in the AL East in the race for that division title and so far that has been the case with just a game and a half separating first from last place. Tampa Bay has the slight edge at 5-4 with both New York and Toronto evenly splitting their first eight games. The defending World Series Champion Boston Red Sox and Baltimore are bringing up the rear at 3-5.
Detroit started the MLB regular season as BetAnySports’ favorite to win both the AL Central and the American League Pennant and so far the Tigers have played true to form with a 4-2 start. They have been favored in all six games they have played and the total has gone 2-3-1. Cleveland is the only other team in the division that has a winning record at 4-3.

One of the biggest surprises out of the gate has been the Seattle Mariners at 5-2. They started the season with a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels as road underdogs in all three outings. The Mariners have extended that winning streak against their division rivals to four games with a 5-3 victory over the Angels on Tuesday as 122 home favorites on BetAnySports’ betting line for that game. The total has now gone OVER in five of their first seven games.
