MLB Betting at Get That Bet – Bumgarner Looks to Be Road Warrior Again For Giants

The San Francisco Giants like to think they have gotten things back to normal by now, and they are once again in the lead in the National League West. On Wednesday night they will take on the Philadelphia Phillies in baseball betting action that begins at 7:05 PM ET at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The Giants have now won five of their last six games, and they will be putting one of their best pitchers on the mound for this contest. Meanwhile, the Phillies are slumping, looking to trade key people, and are in the cellar in the National League East.

Southpaw Madison Bumgarner (11-7, 3.38 ERA) will be getting the start for the Giants in this one, while the Phillies counter with right-hander AJ Burnett, who is 6-9 with a 4.08 ERA.

In the MLB betting odds that have been posted on this game by the people at Get That Bet, San Francisco is a road favorite:

San Francisco Giants (Bumgarner – L) -150
Philadelphia Phillies (Burnett – R) +130

Over 7.5 Runs -110
Under 7.5 Runs -110

For a while, the Giants looked like they were never going to get out of a slump that had them losing 18 out of 23 games at one stretch. They were 9.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers, but lost that lead. Since then, however, they have regained first place, and lead the Dodgers by one game at the moment. Philadelphia is thirteen games behind the NL East-leading Washington Nationals, and as MLB bettors are aware, the playoff hope for them is gone.

As we approach the trade deadline, which is just eight days away, the Phillies are looking to purge some salary, and they were hopeful that Cliff Lee was going to be able to give them a strong performance coming off the disabled list two nights ago. Unfortunately, Lee gave up six runs, and he does not look like attractive trade bait at the moment.

Get That Bet patrons saw that Burnett was not outstanding in his last start, as he gave up six runs on ten hits in five innings of work against Atlanta. His WHIP ratio of 1.36 is not particularly strong. But Bumgarner has been outstanding as a visitor, chalking up an ERA of 1.94 while striking out 74 batters in 74 innings. He looked like he had some good stuff last time out against Miami, as he gave up only one run and struck out seven in six innings of a 9-1 victory over the Marlins. Philadelphia’s batting average against left-handed starters is not robust (.225), so Bumgarner might have an opportunity to have his way.

But interestingly enough, these teams have trended very strongly toward playing games over the total. Philadelphia has had eight overs in its last nine games, while San Francisco has gone over the number in five of its last six. The Giants have produced one of the most formidable bullpens in the major leagues, with a 20-9 record and a 2.71 ERA. And while San Francisco has the best road record in the National League (28-19), Philadelphia has the worst mark at home (19-31).
