Baseball Betting at Get That Bet – Dodgers’ Haren Steps in Against Padres After Kershaw’s No-No

No one could blame Dan Haren if he can’t duplicate what the man ahead of him in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitching rotation was able to accomplish in the team’s last game. But he doesn’t need to do that, or even get very close to it, if he is going to lead the boys in blue to a win that could be significant in the course of the National League West race. Baseball betting action against the San Diego Padres will begin at 10:10 PM ET at Petco Park.

Haren is a capable pitcher, but he’s never scaled the same heights as Los Angeles southpaw Clayton Kershaw, who made baseball history on Wednesday by tossing a no-hitter against Colorado Rockies and highlighting it with fifteen strikeouts. His differed from most no-hitters in the respect that it wasn’t his fault that a Colorado batter reached base and spoiled the perfect game; that came on a throwing error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who is largely a liability in the field.

Haren, with a record of 7-4 and 3.54 ERA, will take the mound against San Diego’s Ian Kennedy, who has a very respectable 3.72 earned run average but only a 5-8, which can be at least partially attributed to the inability on the part of his teammates to score runs.

In the baseball betting lines that a been posted on this game by the people at Get That Bet, the game is a pick’em:

San Diego Padres (Kennedy – R) -110
Los Angeles Dodgers (Haren – R) -110

Over 6.5 Runs -115
Under 6.5 Runs -105

The Dodgers are now six games over the .500 mark (40-34), and that, coupled with the slump by the San Francisco Giants, who have lost eight of their last nine going into Friday action, has brought them within four games of the lead in the NL West. Is it all happening again? Are the big-budget Dodgers going to launch into a furious run like they did last season when they won the division?

Well, Get That Bet customers partial to them shouldn’t get so excited quite yet. They won 92 games last year but may have to win considerably more if they want to go into the playoffs as the division champions. And they are trying to win four straight games for the first time this season.

Haren got off to a shaky start last time out against Arizona, allowing two runs in the first inning, but gathered himself to yield one run for the rest of his stint and help L.A. to the victory. Kennedy was shaky for 5-1/3 innings against the Mets when he last took the mound, allowing eleven batters to reach base.

Maybe the difference that baseball bettors should consider strongly in this game is that the Padres have struggled at the plate. This has not been an explosive team offensively in recent years, and during the month of June the problem has been particularly galling, as they have averaged just 1.9 runs per game.
