Baseball Odds at Get That Bet — Marlins Hope to Continue Strong Pitching in Pick’em Prop vs. Astros

After winning five of their last six games, the Miami Marlins firmly believe they can get themselves back into the playoff chase. Meanwhile, the Houston Astros would certainly like to avoid having to lose 100 games again. These teams will tangle with each other, as well as the baseball odds at Get That Bet, on Saturday night at 7:10 PM ET at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

The Marlins recently took three out of four games against the Atlanta Braves, and they rode an outstanding pitching performance by Brad Hand to win the opener of this series. They are 49-53, eight games behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East, and 5.5 games out of the second wild card spot in the NL. The Astros, who are, of course, in the American League, are 42-61, which means all they have to do to dodge the 100-loss mark for the fourth consecutive season is to go 22-38 in their last sixty games. Not only that, but they are not even in the cellar at the moment, beating out the Texas Rangers for fourth place in the AL West.

This game will feature right-handers going up against each other. The homestanding Astros turn to Jarred Cosart (9-6, 4.23 ERA), who is just one of a number of young pitchers the organization has been bringing along. The Marlins will counter with Tom Koehler (6-7, 3.85 ERA), who will be looking to get back to the .500 mark.

In the baseball odds that have been posted on this game by the people at Get That Bet, the game is a pick’em proposition:

Houston Astros (Cosart – R) -110
Miami Marlins (Koehler – R) -110

Over 8.5 Runs -115
Under 8.5 Runs -105

The Astros have dropped six of their last eight games, but by and large, this is an improved bunch under manager Bo Porter. The idea is to develop players who could be there for the long term, and certainly the building blocks can be seen with people like second baseman Jose Altuve, who is hitting .337 with 41 steals; outfielder George Springer, who has blasted 20 homers as a rookie; and third baseman Matt Dominguez. There is no question that baseball bettors will hear much from these guys in the future.

Cosart really appears to be in the doldrums at the moment. He has allowed 16 runs in his last sixteen innings, and that is discouraging when you consider that he had gone twelve straight outings without permitting more than three runs, which included brilliant back-to-back starts against Atlanta and Tampa Bay. He will need more support from his teammates, who have scored a total of one run over the last two games.

To get the full picture, Get That Bet customers need to know that Koehler just recently rebounded from a couple of disastrous starts. Last time out he exited with two outs in the seventh inning after allowing just one run to the Braves. On the road he has been shaky, with a 4.92 ERA.

The Marlins have more offensive firepower than they had the last couple of seasons, but they haven’t shown baseball bettors much of it lately. In their last nine games, they have scored just 23 runs. But they have been bailed out by the pitching, which has limited opponents to a .200 average over the last seven games. Houston has gone in something of an opposite direction, as its foes have hit .304 over the last seven.
