Smyly (5-9, 4.21 ERA) essentially has to take the place of one of the top southpaws in baseball, as he comes from the Detroit Tigers in the trade for David Price, who is also starting Tuesday night. Last year he was 6-0 with a 2.37 ERA as a reliever, but did not take that level of success with him into the rotation. He pitched against the White Sox just hours before he was traded, going five innings and allowing four runs.
