Baseball Betting at Get That Bet — Padres Throw Their Best at Cards, But Is It Enough?

The St. Louis Cardinals are a team that went to the World Series last season, but will probably be battling the rest of the season for an opportunity to appear in the post-season again. So every game has got to be critical for them. The San Diego Padres once again are suffering from a lack of offensive punch, and consequently they are in “rebuilding” mode for another season. But at least they are building with quality pitching, and the guy who has been their best starter this season will take the mound as they play host to the defending National League champions in baseball betting action that is set to get underway at 10:10 PM ET at Petco Park in San Diego.

Tyson Ross is a 6′ 6″ right-hander out of the University of California, and even though he doesn’t have a winning record on the season (9-10), he is among the league’s best when it comes to shutting down the opposition. It’s a shame he doesn’t get enough support from his teammates. He will be going up against Lance Lynn (11-7, 3.05 ERA), who has been nothing but solid for St. Louis.

In the baseball betting odds that have been posted at Get That Bet, the game is a pick’em:

San Diego Padres (Ross – R) -110
St. Louis Cardinals (Lynn – R) -110

Over 6 Runs -120
Under 6 Runs +100

To say that the Cardinals are in the middle of a fierce playoff race would be an understatement. Even though they recently lost four games in a row (but came back with a couple of victories over the Chicago Cubs), they are still only a game and a half in back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. If they don’t win the division, though, they will certainly have a fight on their hands in the wild-card race, as they are currently tied with the San Francisco Giants for that second spot.

Lynn, as baseball bettors know, is a power pitcher, and he is on a nice run at the moment, with a 2.37 ERA over his last three starts. He didn’t have a whole lot of luck the last time he faced San Diego, giving up four earned runs in five innings of work, but that was last July 20. He goes up against a team that averages just 3.1 runs per game, and can’t really sustain a steady offense.

Tyson Ross has been a victim of that anemic attack, as have Get That Bet customers who have backed the Padres this season. With a 2.65 ERA, Ross does not deserve to have a losing record. Obviously this was recognized with his selection to the All-Star team, and it was beneficial that he did not have to break his routine, as he pitched in the Sunday right before the Mid-Summer Classic. Consequently, Ross has been absolutely incredible in his last three starts, surrendering just two earned runs in 20 innings. Like Lynn, he is a pitcher who makes a lot of batters miss, averaging about a strikeout per inning. He has been double tough at Petco Park, with a 1.89 ERA, and Padres, even though they are thirteen games below the .500 mark overall, are dead even in friendly environs. This obviously will not be a cakewalk for the Cardinals. On the other hand, no capable pitcher is easy for the Padres to handle. Or so it seems.
